The course introduces students to the features of academic writing: purpose, audience, the process of writing, drafting, editing, types of sources, creating a bibliography, avoiding plagiarism, structuring sentences, paragraphs and academic essays, and presenting one’s research to others. The seminars offer hands-on experience of writing and editing the students’ own texts and improving on existing work. This is coupled with language work: academic vocabulary and grammar exercises help to improve the students’ grasp of the English language. Assessment is based on the following criteria:

* A portfolio of written work;

* A midterm test;

* A revised final term paper;

* Final exam.
