The general part of the course examines the absorption, resorption, distribution, biotransformation and excretion of xenobiotics and their metabolites from the body, as well as some quantitative features of toxicokinetics. Special attention is given to the biotransformation of xenobiotics and the importance of these processes for drug metabolism, drug toxicity and safety in pharmacotherapy. Attention will be given to the realisation of the toxic effect (toxicodynamics).
In the special part of the course, the toxic effects on different organs and systems are considered. The toxicological characteristics of the most common intoxications with toxic substances of an industrial and domestic nature are presented, i.e. the most common causes of acute exogenous poisoning in the household and those caused by medicinal substances, including their symptoms and first aid measures.
