The main objectives of the course are several:

  • To get the students acquainted with the concept of conditionality as the basic EU enlargement policy tool;
  • To familiarize the students with the evolution and the major phases of the Enlargement conditionality in the course of its implementation in the Eastern and South-Eastern Enlargements;
  • To explain the political  logic of transformation of the pre-accession into post-accession conditionality;
  • To explicate the paradigmal differences in studying the EU enlargements;
  • To provide a broad conceptual frame for an academic evaluation of the EU’s potentials for Europeanization and for democracy promotion in the accession  countries.
