TASK 8: Developing paragraphs
The paragraph is the main building block of your text. There are several important standards for developing paragraphs in academic writing.
a) Each main idea should be presented separately in a new paragraph.
b) Each paragraph in the body of your essay will usually begin with a topic sentence stating the main idea of the paragraph.
c) The topic sentence should be followed by several sentences which support the main idea.
d) To add support or evidence, it is a good idea to use examples, figures or statistics.
e) You may also use quotations to support your ideas.
f) You should have a strong concluding sentence in each paragraph to link the reader back to the topic sentence or provide a link to the next paragraph or section.
Develop below one of the paragraphs that you have planned and researched for in the previous exercises.
