Preliminary requirements – middle level of English language skills

Purpose of the course:
Digitalization is a modern form of documentation of cultural heritage. New information technologies provide a unique opportunity for the quickest digitalization of the collections of libraries, archives and museums. The main aim of the lectures is to familiarize students with the world achievements in this area, and the programs realized by various cultural institutions, for digitalization of the Bulgarian cultural heritage.

Annotation:
The development and implementation of the new digital technologies for documentation of heritage provide conditions for easier handling of huge arrays of information in this area. The digitalization of cultural heritage has the following advantages: quick documentation of various monuments - literary, archival, movable and immovable monuments, including museum exhibits, artwork, etc., simultaneous usage of the created databases by museums, police, and customs in order to prevent illegal traffic of cultural values; creation of a three-dimensional models of unique monuments, creation of virtual museums, etc.

Form of examination - writing an essay.
Requirements for admission to the exam – paper on a specific topic.

Credits – 6.
