This diagram shows CL in two ways. The bottomn part represent it in connection with second language acquisition (the individual's becoming biliangual) and root should start from NL (L1) and move tpwards FL (L2) via the overlapping circles representing various stages of the Interlanguage. The top root may be interpreted as CL in relation to translation. It starts from SL (the original) and ends in the TL (translation) and goes via what is called here interlingua (the combination of the linguistic and perhaps other knowledge allowing the interpretation/understanding the original text) plus the productive knowledge allowing the expressing of the meaninf of the original in the TL.
